Day 48

Gemco was an early department store/supermarket/members only hybrid, a true one-stop shopping experience.  I went there maybe half a dozen times with my parents in our first four years here in Tucson.  In 1985, our Gemco store began a going out of business sale and threw open their doors to non-members.  My Dad mentioned one day that he was gonna go look and see if they had any good deals on new albums.  I tagged along and picked up this K-tel double album from the cut-out bin for $1.99.  (Don't remember if Dad picked up anything but it was likely our last father-son vinyl hunt.)  Didn't like the whole vibe of the closing store: somber employees facing unemployment while shoppers who apparently never bothered to frequent the store prior to its financial straits swooped in to pick at its corpse.  I've managed to purposely avoid every single retail closure since then and sadly there have been many.

The Hot Ones (2LP) (K-tel) (1978)

This one is still on the Vinyl Wall.  Watch for my evaluation and K-tel Scale rating of The Hot Ones on Monday, August 25th over on K-tel Kollection 1973-1983.
