Day 66

Just two quick picks the day before we drove up the road apiece to see Power Station in concert, just 10 days after they had performed at Live Aid. I hadn't seen that performance so I had no idea Robert Palmer wasn't touring with them until they took the stage. Was hoping some of his solo stuff would be played. Despite the vast resources of the interwebs as well as putting our aged heads together, we could not think of who the opening act was, though a slim consensus thinks it was Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark aka OMD.
  • In retrospect, I can't say why the recordings of Big Joe Turner appealed to me but they did. Picked this record up on the cheap.
  • The second single from Prince's Around The World In A Day was "Pop Life" with the non-album B-side "Hello" a non-apology for not taking part in the "We Are The World" sessions. The artwork for the ATWIAD singles is some of the most intricate in Prince's immense catalog so I included scans of the label and both the front and back sides of the 45 sleeve.
Early Big Joe 1940-1944 - Big Joe Turner (1980)
"Pop Life" b/w "Hello" - Prince & the Revolution (1985)

The Prince single is still on the Vinyl Wall.
